CHAPTER 3: THE TABLE WHERE THEY ALL BELONGED (FINAL)

Six months later, the dining room looked very different.

The chandelier was smaller. The table simpler.

But the laughter was real.

Helen sat at the head, hands folded, eyes shining as she watched women from all walks of life share food and stories. Former maids. Young engineers. Single mothers. Students.

Maya raised a glass.

“This table,” she said, “has no hierarchy.”

Applause filled the room.

Later that night, Helen pulled her daughter aside.

“You didn’t destroy her,” she said softly. “You just… outgrew her.”

Maya smiled. “That was the point.”

Across the city, Evelyn Parker packed boxes alone. The mirrors in her house reflected no admiration—only absence.

Power, it turned out, cannot survive without witnesses.

Maya stepped onto the balcony beside her mother.

The city lights shimmered.

“You belong here,” Maya said.

Helen nodded.
